Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops said Friday that cornerback Aaron Colvin still hasn’t decided whether he’ll return for his senior season.
Even if Colvin returns, the Sooners will return just four defensive starters heading into next season. Outside linebacker Corey Nelson, defensive end Chuka Ndulue and nickelback Gabe Lynn are the reminders of the group.
Stoops doesn’t seem to have a problem with rebuilding. He recalled hearing Florida basketball coach Billy Donovan answer a question about returning his entire team one season.
“He said, ‘I wish I didn’t; that’s not always a good thing. I got the biggest kick out of that,” Stoops said.
“We’ve got young guys coming up. We’ve gotta coach ‘em up and train them. They have to do a good job wanting to be coached and developing. Again, sometimes that’s OK.”
The Sooners gave up 633 yards to Texas A&M in their 41-13 loss in the AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic. For the season, OU finished 64th in the country in total defense, allowing 398.31 yards per game.
