Tell us your stories of courage under fire

NORMAN — From the beaches of Normandy and Inchon to the jungles of Vietnam to the desert sands of Iraq and Afghanistan, our military personnel serve with distinction. Still, many of them will tell you that they aren't heroes.

The real heroes, they say, are those who didn't come home.

These veterans rarely share their stories, opting to spare their families, as best they can, from the brutalities of war.

Sadly, others of our veterans have fallen, their stories lost to us forever.

We at the Transcript think these stories need to be told, and we want to tell them.

Will you share your stories or the stories of your loved ones?

The Transcript is planning a special publication on July 1 in anticipation of the July 4th Norman Day celebration.

To honor our veterans, we are soliciting your stories or the stories of your loved ones, written in your words.

The stories, with limited editing, will be published in that July 1 keepsake section.

We also ask for the loan of photos of your heroes, whether freshly starched or combat weary.

Write up your stories, light-hearted or serious, and send them, with a photo and return address to:
