NORMAN — The Big 12 baseball tournament’s altered schedule means Oklahoma must have the alarm clocks handy. It faces Baylor at 9 a.m., Thursday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark, and will also face Texas Tech at 9 a.m., Friday. OU’s pool-play finale against Kansas State is set to start at 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
Then again, playing early might not be the worst thing for the Sooners (35-17). They went 5-7 in night games this season, while going 30-10 in games played in the sunshine. Under the current schedule, the latest game OU could play would be the championship game at 1 p.m. Sunday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City.
Historically, the Sooners have played some of their best in day games in Oklahoma City. OU coach Sunny Golloway’s first interim season in 2005, the Sooners are 12-11 in the Big 12 tournament, but they are 6-4 in day games, having won four of their last five day games dating back to the 2010 tournament.
OU advanced to the Big 12 tournament title game last season, playing all day games.
The Sooners enter the tournament coming off a win against Kansas State. The game started at 11 a.m.
