Shinn at 3p.m.: M'Baye and Neal named to 013 Academic All-Big 12 Basketball Team

NORMAN — Oklahoma’s Amath M'Baye and Tyler Neal were named to the 2013 Academic All-Big 12 Basketball Team on Thursday.

Both M’Baye and Neal were selected to the 15-person first team, which includes players who have recorded a 3.20 or better GPA. Seven Big 12 men's basketball players were named to the second team (3.00 to 3.19 GPA).

M'Baye, an international studies major who hails from Bordeaux, France, is OU's third-leading scorer and second-leading rebounder. The junior forward averages 10.5 points and 5.5 rebounds in 24.6 minutes per contest. He ranks 10th in the conference with his .485 field goal percentage.

Neal, also a junior forward, is majoring in sociology and was honored for the second straight year (he was a second-team selection last season). The Oklahoma City native has played in 20 games this season and is averaging 1.4 points and 1.8 rebounds in 7.9 minutes per contest. Neal is coming off an eight-point performance against TCU Monday night, his highest scoring output in Big 12 play this season.

To qualify for the all-academic team, players must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher and have participated in 60 percent of his team's games. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
