Bridge work, wreck causing headaches on Interstate 35 in southern Oklahoma

SULPHUR (AP) — The Oklahoma Department of Transportation says construction and a traffic accident are causing major slowdowns on Interstate 35 in southern Oklahoma.

Officials say traffic was already narrowed to one lane in each direction of I-35 because of an ongoing bridge project. The affected area is near mile marker 47 in the Arbuckle mountains.

Officials say a traffic accident has added to the problem and is causing a major traffic backup. The highway department encourages southbound drivers on I-35 to take exit 55 at Sulphur on U.S. 177 to avoid the area.
