Apparent tornadoes touch down in SW Oklahoma

OKLAHOMA CITY — Police in Lawton say two apparent tornadoes touched down on the edges of the southwest Oklahoma city.

A police dispatcher said there were no reports of injuries or damage as a result of the late Wednesday afternoon storm and that the twisters appeared small. The Comanche County emergency services director did not immediately return a phone call seeking comment.

No power outages were reported in the area.

The National Weather Service issued several tornado warnings in southwestern Oklahoma counties as a strong storm system moved through the area Wednesday afternoon and early evening.

A tornado watch remains in effect for 51 of Oklahoma’s 77 counties until 11 p.m., and hail from 1/4 to 1 3/4 inches has been reported in western Oklahoma.
