Teen drowns in lake near Guthrie

GUTHRIE (AP) — Authorities have recovered the body of a 14-year-old boy who drowned in a lake near Guthrie.

Authorities say Guthrie police responded Monday night to a report of a possible drowning at Liberty Lake. Oklahoma City television station KWTV reports that crews searched the lake and recovered the boy’s body at about 8 p.m.

Police say the boy was swimming toward the middle of the lake with a group of other teenagers when he suddenly went underwater.

Police say it’s the first drowning on Liberty Lake in at least 15 years.

The boy’s name has not been released.
