special to pop

NormanMusicScene.com will present a Singer/songwriter showcase 8 p.m. today at Borders Books Music and Cafe, 300 Norman Center Court.

The first performer tonight is Katie Mariah, who grew up performing in the symphony hall, theaters and churches of Enid. At 18 she left home for New York City and has been rambling, studying music and writing her own tunes. Now back in Oklahoma she'll tell audience members in song what she's been doing and where she's been.

Randy Vanderburg is new to the show but not to writing songs. He grew up listening to his mother's old record collection, Elvis, The Beatles and Motown. He's been writing his own melodies and songs ever since his mother bought an organ in 1980.

John Madison brings a background in folk music to the stage with a voice that has been called big and melodic by listeners. His originals continue the folk tradition to the present day.

Madison recently attended the Woody Guthrie Folk Festival in Okemah both as a performer and as a listener. He has been working up duets with Mariah and also will be accompanied by Miranda Arana on flute.

Richard "Daddy" Love has been playing his original music to a new audience on the Internet at SecondLife.com under the name Zacharian Loon. His live streaming audio shows are attended by folks from all over the US, Canada, Belgium and Germany.

To listen to a live show on the internet or learn more about SecondLife go to daddylovesmusic.com.
