NORMAN — An Oklahoma institution, Van’s Pig Stand restaurant received a TripAdvisor “Certificate of Excellence” award this year. The accolade honors hospitality excellence and is given only to establishments that consistently achieve outstanding traveler reviews on Trip-Advisor.

Only the top-performing 10 percent of businesses listed on TripAdvisor receive the recognition.

Van’s operates restaurants in Norman and Shawnee. The restaurant in Moore was destroyed by the tornado May 20.

Expect to see Van’s at a new location in Moore sometime soon.

“We’ll be back in Moore. We are going to rebuild,” owner Nina Shuman said. “It’s going to be bigger and better — Moore Strong.”

Shuman and her husband purchased land some time ago with the intention to build a new restaurant.

“It’s just happening sooner rather than later,” she said. “We’re just trying to stay in God’s will.”

The couple is working with architects and hope to announce the new location soon.

To qualify for a Certificate of Excellence, businesses must maintain an overall rating of four or higher, out of a possible five, as reviewed by travelers on TripAdvisor, and must have been listed on TripAdvisor for at least 12 months. Additional criteria include the volume of reviews received within the last 12 months.

“TripAdvisor is delighted to celebrate the success of businesses around the globe, from Sydney to Chicago, Sao Paulo to Rome, which are consistently offering travelers a great customer experience,” said Alison Copus, vice president of marketing for TripAdvisor for Business. “The Certificate of Excellence award provides top-performing establishments around the world the recognition they deserve, based on feedback from those who matter most — their customers.”
