NORMAN — Norman NEXT recently celebrated with a new annual event, SummerFest, designed to get members’ young families out in the sun.

SummerFest is also an opportunity to introduce potential members to Norman NEXT. This year’s event was sponsored by First Fidelity Bank at Andy Alligator’s Water Park.

Norman NEXT is a Norman Chamber supported organization comprised of young professionals 21 to 40 years of age. NEXT’s mission is to develop the next generation of leaders for Norman by creating a connected, active and engaged community of young professionals.

Through leadership, mentoring, networking and volunteerism, Norman NEXT cultivates and inspires young professionals to be a positive agent of change for Norman.

The organization was launched in April 2008 and has experienced success and an overwhelming response from the Norman community.

Currently, Norman NEXT has more than 175 paid members and 14 community partners, including a-Peel, Arvest Bank, BancFirst, Bank of Oklahoma, the Chickasaw Nation, First American Bank, Hal Smith Restaurant Group, Harrison Design & Productions, Ideal Homes, IMMY, Journey Church, Moore Norman Technology Center, Norman Chamber of Commerce and Republic Bank & Trust.

Get Involved with Norman NEXT: Through its five teams, Government Relations, NEXT Generational Leadership, Special Events, Community Activism and Membership Development, Norman NEXT provides different avenues for young professionals to take an active role in making a positive impact in the community.

Every other month, Norman NEXT invites speakers and business leaders from the Norman community and throughout Oklahoma to talk to young professionals about diverse topics at a Roundtable Luncheon.

With an average of more than 50 current and prospective Norman NEXT members in attendance, the Roundtable Luncheons have been informative for young professionals throughout the Norman community.

Roundtable Luncheons are typically from noon to 1 p.m. on the third Wednesday of odd months at various locations throughout Norman.

Norman NEXT’s social networking event, NEXT Hour, provides young professionals the opportunity to meet and network with other young professionals in the community.

On average, 75 or more current and prospective members have attended NEXT Hour.

NEXT Hour is usually from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on the second Thursday on even months at various locations throughout Norman.

Another highlight includes a mentor program launched every spring, pairing Norman NEXT members with business leaders in the Norman community.

Norman NEXT Under 40 is a collaboration between Norman NEXT and The Norman Transcript that honors young professionals dedicated to making a difference in Norman.

Lead Now is an annual event that brings in nationally known leadership speakers at a discounted rate for members. NEXTBall is a biannual charitable tournament benefiting many local charities.

Norman NEXT is looking for young professionals from all backgrounds to get involved.

Memberships are $75 for non-Chamber members and $50 for current Chamber members.

The $75 also includes an individual membership to the Norman Chamber of Commerce, usually a $175 cost.
