NORMAN — Walmart will open a new Neighborhood Market Wednesday after a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m. The new store, approximately one-quarter the size of a Walmart Supercenter, is located at 3571 W. Rock Creek Road at the intersection of 36th Ave. NW and Rock Creek Road and is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The new store employs up to 95 full- and part-time associates. The first Walmart Neighborhood Market opened in 1998, and today there are approximately 250 Walmart Neighborhood Market stores nationwide. The new store will offer fresh produce and pharmacy services.

Store manager Amy McMullin began her Walmart career in 1994 as a part-time cashier at a store in the Oklahoma City area.

“I am looking forward to showing the residents of Norman our new store and all it has to offer shoppers that want to get in and out quickly,” McMullin said. “We would like to invite the community to join us Wednesday, Aug. 14, to the grand-opening celebration to shop and enjoy the many vendors and giveaways taking place throughout the day.”

Walmart is happy to be part of the Norman community and is ready to celebrate with residents on Aug. 17. A Big Family Welcome will give customers a chance to meet McMullin and enjoy fun family activities such as face painting, cupcake decorating and free food samples while supplies last. Join the celebration from noon to 3 p.m.

“The Walmart Neighborhood Market will add to the great grocery options in Norman, and we welcome the concept to our community,” said John Woods, President and CEO of the Norman Chamber of Commerce. “The new store will offer a great new shopping experience for consumers in and out of the Norman area, and we appreciate the Walmart Neighborhood Market bringing its selection and convenience.”

The Neighborhood Market format offers a full grocery department, including organic and natural selections. The store features prepared food options, fresh-baked breads and a self-serve deli. The Norman store will also carry University of Oklahoma items for all Sooner fans.

The pharmacy offers a full range of products and services. Pharmacy team members can answer product and prescription questions and customers can ask about health and wellness solutions.

The grand-opening celebration includes presentations of $5,000 in grants from Walmart and the Walmart Foundation to local community groups.
