NORMAN — With outdoor grilling season upon us, Norman is excited to have one of the region’s premier burger competitions back for a third year. Interurban Restaurants and new partner David Stanley Chevrolet of Norman are ready to host the OK Kids Korral Battle of the Burger from noon to 4 p.m. on June 1 at the David Stanley Chevrolet dealership, 1221 Ed Noble Parkway in Norman.
Grill Masters are welcome to enter one or more categories with prizes ranging from $250 to $1,000. Last year, team Pig Pen placed in two categories. Having something that appeals to everyone, Battle of the Burger has five categories: Backyard Griller (80 percent ground beef, Alternative Burger, Public Safety (military, police, paramedics, etc.), Organizations/Non-Profit, and Restaurants.
Entry fees for each category are $50.
Many groups and businesses use the battle as a great way to promote themselves while supporting and not losing sight of the reason for the Battle grilling season, OK Kids Korral. This will be a state of the art and self-sustaining housing facility for families undergoing pediatric cancer treatments in Oklahoma City.
“We are scheduled to open this fall. The excitement is building as we see the progress” said Juliet Nees-Bright, the Toby Keith Foundation and OK Kids Korral Director. “The OK Kids Korral will help families on so many levels. We have special areas in the house for every member of the family regardless of age. We’ve been dreaming about the opening the doors of the Korral for a long time. Now we are actually planning the opening and it feels fantastic.”
Battle of the Burger will not only have a serious burger battle going on, but will have entertainment for all to enjoy. There will be an abundance of kids’ activities, celebrity judges, and returning for a third year Canadian River Cruisers Classic Car Club and band Mountain Smoke.
“This is a fabulous family event that benefits such a wonderful cause. We are blessed to continue for a third year with our new partner David Stanley Chevrolet of Norman. You can’t be a part of the Battle and not smile. It is just a blast,” said Beth Patterson of Interurban Restaurants and co-director of Battle of the Burger.
Sample ticket packages will begin at $7. Beverages, frozen treats and a raffle will be available for attendees to continue supporting the OK Kids Korral. For more information, please visit www.battleoftheburger.com or contact Beth Patterson at 405-609-7289.
