NORMAN — A senior tax partner with Gray, Blodgett & Company PLLC in Norman was named as the recipient of the 2013 Rick Kells Outstanding Tax Professional award at the Oklahoma Society of Certified Public Accountants (OSCPA) annual Oklahoma Tax Institute last month in Tulsa.

Rodney G. Gray, CPA, CFP, CVA, was presented the award by his colleague and OSCPA Taxation Committee Chairperson Janese Shepard, CPA.

“I am very honored to have received the Rick Kells Outstanding Tax Professional Award,” Gray said. “Since the selection for this award comes from the Oklahoma Society of CPAs Taxation Committee, which consists of tax professionals from Oklahoma, it is gratifying to know that my tax colleagues consider me worthy of this award.

“And because Rick was a personal friend, as well as a professional colleague for more than 25 years, it makes this award even more special.”

Gray, a graduate of East Central University in Ada and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, began his career 40 years ago in Tulsa at Cities Service Company before moving back to Ada to join Horne & Company.

He relocated to Norman to work for Peat Marwick Mitchell & Company, which is now known as KPMG. He later joined Stover, Fisher and Gray before the partners split and formed Gray, Blodgett & Company.

An active member of OSCPA for 39 years, Gray has served the OSCPA as a president, a member of the board of directors and chair of several committees.

In addition, he has had several offices in the OSCPA Norman chapter and was named the chapter’s 2003 Distinguished CPA. In 2010, he was inducted into the Oklahoma Accounting Hall of Fame.

At the state level, he was appointed by former Gov. Frank Keating to serve a two-year term on the Oklahoma Citizen’s Task Force on Taxation. Nationally, he’s been a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants since 1975, serving on the Governing Council and the Virtual Grass Roots Panel, as well as various committees.

“Rodney has always been the best research tool at our office. I joke that Rodney has forgotten more about taxes than I will ever know. I am very glad he received this award because I know how much he and Rick Kells respected each other,” said Ted Blodgett, CPA/CVA, ABV, JD, president of the OSCPA, and partner at Gray, Blodgett and Company.
