NORMAN — The Women’s Resource Center’s domestic violence shelter residents were in dire need of a new heading and air conditioning system. With this summer’s temperatures reaching dangerous highs and the cold weather approaching, the insufficiency of the HVAC unit left the women and children in a constant state of discomfort.

Waggoners’ Heating and Air Conditioning and Jay Sparks of Lennox wanted to help.

“The repairs needed on the system would have cost them an estimated $10,000. It just needs replacing.” said Jen Smith-Holmes, Remodel Manager at Waggoners’. “This is money that the Women’s Resource Center simply does not have.”

Waggoners’ Heating and Air and Lennox wanted to do more than what was required, however. Lennox donated two brand new air conditioning systems and Waggoners’ has committed to donating free parts and labor to get this problem resolved. They will install the second new system in the Resource Center’s neighboring unit used for community domestic violence classes.

“We plan on getting both units replaced in one day. The job will take about 6-8 hours to complete.” said Smith-Holmes. The installation will be carried out by Waggoners’ service technicians under Smith-Holmes’ supervision and evaluation. Waggoners’ will also provide the Resource Center with preventative maintenance and 24-hour emergency service.

“All of the residents leave from traumatic, abusive, and uncomfortable living situations for a new beginning. Waggoners’ is honored to work with Lennox to enhance the residents’ sense of comfort while they work to begin the next chapter in their lives.” said Smith-Holmes.
