Standridge visits Youth Expo

NORMAN — With the assistance of his daughters Holly and Harper, Sen. Rob Standridge this week visited the Oklahoma Youth Expo and helped an area FFA student show a goat. Standridge and family joined Travis Grayson of Noble to show his goat, Milton, at State Fair Arena.

Standridge said the area was well-represented at the event, which highlights some of the best and brightest young people from rural Oklahoma.

“For nearly 100 years, families in Oklahoma have made this event a tradition in their lives and it remains one of the more important events of the year for young people who show livestock,” said Standridge, R-Norman. “Farming and ranching has always been a way of life in Oklahoma.  Participating in organizations like FFA and 4-H, and showing livestock, helps us keep this way of life a reality for future generations.”

Standridge noted FFA and 4-H also offer their members a chance to develop leadership skills and an opportunity for students to excel beyond the classroom. Their focus on providing a well-rounded agricultural career experience gives students the tools they need to contribute in an increasingly competitive economy.

“I’m always pleased to meet young people in our district, and it was a joy to visit with some of the future leaders of our communities this week,” Standridge said. “Farming and ranching comprise a significant part of our state’s overall economy, and they are also a fundamental part of our identity as a state. This week’s event was an exciting opportunity to celebrate the individual and group accomplishments of many promising young Oklahomans.”
