Dermatologist serves Norman for 40 years

NORMAN — Many people know that Joel E. Holloway, Pharm. D., M.D., is a dermatologist and dermatologic surgeon. Holloway has served the Norman community for 40 years. He is board certified by the American Board of Dermatology and is a fellow of the American Society of Dermatologic Surgeons, among many other medical organizations both state and national. His major interest is in dermatologic surgery with special emphasis on cancer of the skin.

Fewer people may know Holloway is also a 7th degree black belt in Kodokan Judo. He has been the head instructor for the Sooner Judo Club for 52 years. 

Holloway is 20-time United States judo kata gold medalist and the first overall grand champion of the world in judo kata at the World Masters Games held in Brisbane, Australia. He is a member of the Oklahoma Judo Hall of Fame, United States Judo Association Hall of Fame and the Martial Arts Hall of Fame.

Holloway was honorably discharged from the United States Army in 1962 after serving three and one-half years as a combat medic and medical specialist. He is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma College of Pharmacy and OU College of Medicine. His specialty training was with the Department of Dermatology, University of Arkansas Medical Center in Little Rock, Ark., where he served as chief resident of the department. Dr. Holloway has medical licenses in Oklahoma and three adjacent states.
