NORMAN — Quality homes can be family affordable, according to one builder whose business is booming again in an east Norman locality.
Following a lull in the residential new construction market a couple of years ago, many developing neighborhoods are bouncing back, and Alameda Park is no exception.
Abdi Malakouti, project manager for Westpoint Homes in the blossoming Alameda Park neighborhood, said he approaches every build as if he were going to live in the home.
“From the foundation, the concrete work, slab, frame and roofing, all the houses we are building — whether we’re building a $300,000 home or a $150,000 home — are the same quality,” Malakouti said. “We are working with the same subcontractors.”
Special touches in the entry-level, family homes in Alameda Park make the difference.
Malakouti said Westpoint Homes incorporates quality that sometimes exceeds city code requirements. For example, the city requires lead-free faucets in kitchens.
“I do lead-free faucets for the bathroom vanities, too,” he said.
Looking at each home with the eyes of a potential buyer, Malakouti works with the various floor plans to make sure the space flows well and is family friendly, usable and environmentally friendly.
“All of the houses we’re building here are energy-efficient homes with certification,” he said.
He also takes pride to make sure homes are not exact cookie-cutter duplicates of each other, using special touches to give each home distinct character and style. In the kitchen, travertine stone is used for the tile backsplash. Each home has a covered patio and front porch and a security system.
Other touches include items like a giant walk-in closet in the master bedroom and a built-in office nook separate from the bedrooms. Homes have flexible floor plans to meet the budget and other homebuyers’ needs.
“Homes are a big investment. We have to be patient with people,” he said. “We have to work with them.”
The homes come with a one-year builder warranty. In Alameda Park, homes range from 1,250 to 1,800 square feet. The neighborhood will likely reach buildout in three to four years.
