NORMAN — A Norman woman was recently named as the director of the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center in Oklahoma City. By a twist of fate, the former director, Lindy Ritz, was also from Norman.

Michelle Coppedge was named to take the aeronautical center’s helm in April 2013. The Aeronautical Center is the centralized service and support facility for the Federal Aviation Administration and Department of Transportation and home to more than 6,300 federal and contract employees with an annual operational budget of $1 billion.

The Aeronautical Center encompasses more than 1,000 acres and has 128 buildings. The services and customer base include:

· The Enterprise Services Center which provides information technology and financial management services to DOT and other federal agencies. With approximately 1,200 employees, the ESC earns annual revenues of more than $160 million.

· The FAA Academy which conducts technical training and educates a yearly average of 95,000 students, 2,500 classes per year, and approximately 1,000 students per day. The Academy is the premier training institute for the FAA and global community and accredited through the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement — AdvancED Corporation & Distance Education.

· The FAA Logistics Center which provides centralized maintenance, overhaul and repair and supply chain management of National Airspace Systems and equipment. The Logistics Center manages more than 62,000 items worth approximately $900,000,000 and services more than 48,000 facilities throughout the world.

Coppedge was selected into the FAA’s Senior Executive Service in August 2010 and was the Program Director of the Logistics Center at the Aeronautical Center. Prior to this role, she served as the Deputy Director for the FAALC.

Before joining the FAA in 2004, Coppedge was the Engineering Director, Integrated Network Solutions, for Lucent Technologies, where she managed all aspects of business planning, project management, New Product Introduction and strategy formation for the Class Five Electronic Switching System and Any Media Product lines, a $3 billion business line.

She has extensive experience with World Class Manufacturing & Repair leading strategy formation, supply chain management activities and maintaining financial budgets and income statements.

Additionally, Coppedge has extensive international experience leading globally dispersed teams through factory start-ups and managing New Product Introductions and product ramp-ups in Europe (Spain and Poland), Asia (Taiwan and China), Brazil, Russia and Saudi markets. She has led supply chain reengineering efforts at manufacturing, repair and distribution centers in Spain, Poland, Brazil, China, Taiwan, India and the USA.

Coppedge holds a Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering from Purdue University, a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Oklahoma City University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Oklahoma.
