New luxury apartments renting quickly after opening May 1 on west side of Norman

NORMAN — A luxury setting and local owners make the difference in the quality of life available at Norman’s newest apartment complex. The Falls at Brookhaven, 3730 W. Rock Creek Road, opened May 1 and is renting quickly.

“It’s the first class A apartment on the west side that has opened in 25 years,” property manager Tom Kovach said.

Owners Steve and Kristi Jones live in Norman’s Cambridge addition and are very involved in the community, Kovach said.

The 164-unit apartment complex provided temporary housing for tornado victims on special terms.

“When they’re through building their homes, they can get out of the lease,” he said.

Kovach said the city worked with the Falls to get the buildings open and provide homes after the tornado without sacrificing code requirements.

“We had probably 50 or 60 families who were just desperate for a place to stay. Because the city worked with us, we were able to accommodate many people’s needs,” Kovach said.

The Falls provides a safe, amenity-rich environment with easy access to Interstate 35 for commuters.

“They have a crime-free addendum that they’ve been using for five years,” Kovach said. “The owner has a very strict rule that he doesn’t want anyone living in the property that he wouldn’t want living next to his daughter. We have had very good luck with our properties because of that.”

A salt water pool is nearing completion. One courtyard adjacent to the pool will allow residents to enjoy a deck and grills for leisure time activities.

“Salt water is easier on people’s skin,” Kovach said. “It’s also more environmentally friendly than chlorine.”

The other courtyard will feature enhanced landscaping to provide a park-like atmosphere where residents can relax in solitude or fellowship with friends or other residents.

The complex houses a “cool mix” of residents of various ages from graduate students and young professionals to small families and retirees, Kovach said.

One of his favorite features is the valet trash.

“Three days a week, residents put the trash out by the front door first thing in the morning and we dispose of it for them,” Kovach said.

In addition to providing convenience for the residents, this service helps keep apartment grounds clean and litter free.

“Some people hate to go to the dumpster,” he said.

That’s not the only special service the Falls provides. Package pickup of deliveries is available at the office, and rather than a small in-house gym, the apartment contract includes gym membership at either Fitness One or the Brookhaven Health Club.

The pet friendly complex also will have a dog park. A resident lounge with a fireplace and entertainment-style kitchen can be reserved for special gatherings, and the Internet Café includes free Wi-Fi, a computer for those who need it, a printer, a copier and a fax machine.

“They really tried to make it an apartment home,” Kovach said. “They started with the front door. They put in the residential doors with decorative glass. Everyone loves that.”

Inside, residents can expect some luxury touches.

“The upstairs apartments have ground-level doors with private stairways, so we’ve eliminated that breezeway look that a lot of apartments have,” Kovach said. “The kitchen has full-sized, side-by-side stainless refrigerators like you would expect to find in a house.”

Energy Star kitchen appliances mean savings in utility bills. Crown molding in the kitchen, a double bowl stainless kitchen sink with a high neck faucet and built in microwave and dishwasher make the kitchen a favorite spot for many residents.

In addition, full-sized washer and dryer connections and double pane energy-efficient, low heat windows, walk-in closets and spacious bathrooms with a soaking tub are just some of the features that have made the new complex popular.

“A lot of the business that we’ve gotten are referrals from our neighbors in the nearby single family neighborhoods,” Kovach said. “This is one of the most prestigious parts of town and we fit in well with our neighbors. We will work hard to be good neighbors.”
