Norman hits Times Square

NORMAN — Visit Norman is hitting Times Square this week as a five-second promotional video runs on the Good Morning America billboard. The short video is part of a promotional campaign by the Norman Convention and Visitors Bureau.

“They anticipate that over 1.5 million people will see the video spot on the billboard,” NCVB Executive Director Dan Schemm said.

The video is included as part of an advertisement package in the Wall Street Journal’s “Horizon Travel” magazine.

“’Horizon’s Travel’ magazine will be inserted in the Wall Street Journal and be seen by just under half a million people,” Schemm said. “It’s a one-page ad really trying to drive interest in Norman and drive traffic to the website. The ultimate goal is get people to plan trips to Norman.”

Schemm said the Wall Street Journal is seen by a demographic that fits NCVB’s target audience of people with disposable income who are able to travel.

“This is a new market segment for us,” Schemm said. “We’re excited for a new audience to see our message.”

The opportunity for the video to hit the billboard was an added plus in the promotional package.

“Not only will the advertisement on the billboard be seen for 1.5 million people,” he said, “but it’s also the prestige of being seen on the billboard.”

Schemm said a viewing on the billboard is another way to get people talking about Norman.

“We’re going to be looking to strategically spend our dollars and go after opportunities that target that demographic,” Schemm said. “And this coming fiscal year, we’ll be conducting a visitor’s profile study that will get us even more data on people who are coming to Norman, why they are coming, what they’re doing when they’re here and where they’re coming from.”
