NORMAN — The new La Baguette Bakery & Cafe location at 2100 W. Main St. is open for business. La Baguette first opened its doors July 10, 1984 at a different location on Main Street. The business, established by Johnny Jazzar and his brother-in-law Rudy Khouri saw generations of Norman grow up, at the business located across the street from Norman High School.
The new location of La Baguette further west on Main where Boomerang restaurant was formerly located. The building was totally remodeled and the new digs will give the bakery more space.
La Baguette has grown exponentially over the past 28 years. In addition to store locations in Norman and Oklahoma City, Jazzar and Khouri also have a bakery and wholesale production facility in Norman that supplies breads, pastries and desserts to more than 200 hotels and restaurants.
The business uses about 40,000 pounds of chocolate per year, about 10,000 pounds of flour per week, and lots of butter, cream cheese and other baking ingredients. The business stays active in the community, including donating bread to Food and Shelter for Friends, participating in Norman’s annual chocolate festival and participating in other community events.
