Norman businessman Charles Fuson is a big believer in customer service. So much so that he has expanded his business and opened a postal center inside his west Norman tag agency.
The Contract Postal Unit (or CPU in postal terms) opened Thursday inside the Fuson Tag Agency, 1236 N. Interstate Drive. It's one of three such installations in Norman with the other two on the University of Oklahoma campus.
There are more than 40 contract centers in Oklahoma, according to Pam Rayburn, a district retail specialist with the U.S. Postal Service. Rayburn, Norman Postmaster Kreg Stockstill and Sooner Station Manager Leslie Dodd were on hand at the agency Thursday.
"This is as modern an operation as we have at the regular post office," Stockstill said.
Fuson, in business as a tag agent for 21 years in Robinson Crossing Shopping Center, added two employees for the postal side of his operation. They have been trained by the Postal Service.
"I'm not going to sacrifice the tag agency side for the postal side," said Fuson. "We try very hard not to have lines and waits."
Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays. The telephone number is 364-1151.
Stockstill said he would like to see a contract operation opened to serve postal customers on the east side of Norman.
