to host open house

A come and go open house will be 2-4 p.m. Wednesday at the USDA Service Center, 1726 N. Green Ave., Purcell.

The Farm Service Agency, along with Natural Resources Conservation Service personnel, will answer questions about any programs offered by USDA through the Purcell Service Center.

warns of potential scam

The Oklahoma Lottery is warning Oklahomans to be aware of a potential scam seeking to trick citizens into believing they’ve won a Powerball prize.

Recently, a number of individuals have contacted Lottery headquarters in regard to being sent a mailing, which includes a counterfeit check. Citizens are asked to send in a personal check for an insurance processing fee in order to be able cash the counterfeit check. The information in the mailings is not associated with the Oklahoma Lottery.

“The Oklahoma Lottery does not require any type of payment in order to claim a prize,” said Jim Scroggins, executive director of the Oklahoma Lottery. “Please use caution when you receive such notifications, because there are numerous scams similar to this that are circulating.”

Arvest extends posting hours

Arvest announced its 24 branches in central Oklahoma have extended their posting cutoff hours to 7 p.m. The prior cutoff for same day posting was 5 p.m.

“We knew many customers were scrambling to get to the bank before 5 p.m. to get their checks deposited. Now they have a little extra time after work to make their deposits and receive the benefit of same day posting. That should make life a little easier for them,” Kelly Brander, president and CEO of Arvest Bank, Central Oklahoma, said.

Oklahoma City locations that will post deposits until 7 p.m. include branches in Oklahoma City, Choctaw, Del City, Edmond, Midwest City, Moore, Norman, and Yukon.
