Lashar comforts home owners with new business

For The Transcript

Tim Lashar never thought he would grow up and become a heating and air man.

He also never planned to remain in Norman after an exciting ride as a star place kicker at the University of Oklahoma in the mid 1980s.

But two decades later and lots of experience behind him, Tim and his family call Norman home. And that is why it was important to him to open his own business to serve the community.

Lashar Home Comfort Systems opened in July with the mission, "To be the most trusted home comfort provider in the state of Oklahoma."

The business

Lashar said he fell into the heating and air business in the mid 1990s.

"I really enjoy going in and helping people make their homes more comfortable," Lashar said. "It's been really fun doing that."

Lashar started in sales and moved his way up to management before making the jump to the manufacturing side of things in 2004. Lashar spent about three years with York International traveling and supporting the dealer base across the country.

But the traveling was hard on him and his family, wife Kelly and daughters Courtney, 12, Jaclyn, 10, and Brooke, 8. ?

"I felt I could take care of people and not travel so much," he said.

So in July 2007, Lashar said he made a huge step of faith and opened his own business.

"I had a job with a great company, but I felt this was what I was supposed to be doing," he said. "I have done a lot to go against conventional wisdom, but we've really been blessed."

Opening in July is not the best time to open a heating and air business. And Lashar said he also hired his staff at odd times.

But word of mouth and referrals have caused his business to grow with little marketing, so far.
