Volleyball

• New league on tap

Junior Spikers, a new youth volleyball league offered by the City of Norman Parks and Recreation Department, is now accepting registrations for fall. This instructional league for children in the third through sixth graders is aimed at not only teaching participants the proper way to play the sport of volleyball, but good sportsmanship and the fundamentals of working as a member of a team.

Registration will be accepted through Aug. 28 at either the Irving Recreation Center at 125 Vicksburg Ave. or the Parks and Recreation main office at 201 W. Gray. Registration forms may also be downloaded at WWW.normanfun.com The cost is $50 per person, and includes a team shirt. Teams are guaranteed 6 matches. League play will begin the week of Sept. 14.

Camps

•City hosts camp

The Norman Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a Speed and Agility Camp at Whittier Recreation Center from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 3-7, for ages 7 -12, at a cost of $75 per child.

Speed and Agility Camp will help athletes develop proper foot work, quickness and speed. This camp will teach the athletes how to properly work out and run faster.

Golf

• NHS tourney set

A four-person scramble golf tournament is slated for Monday, Aug. 10 at Norman’s Westwood Golf Course. The tournament is a fundraiser for the Norman High School band and orchestra programs.

Four-person scramble teams will play with individual players being assigned teams. The shotgun start is 8 a.m. Entry fee is $75 per player or $300 per team if entered before July 31. Entry fees Aug. 1 through Aug. 6 will be $100 per person or $400 per team. Fees include cart, green fee, lunch, tee gift, door prizes and musical entertainment.
