Brien Angel Rodriguez, 25, allegedly told several people he lost his home and his mother died in the May tornado, court records show.
According to the warrant requests filed with the charges, after Rodriguez told one woman, who was doing charity work for tornado victims, his story in July, she gave Rodriguez $70 in cash, a television, a cable box and various household items worth less than $500.
Rodriguez told the story again in August when someone who thought Rodriguez needed assistance and put him in touch with an individual who ended up giving Rodriguez $350 worth of gift cards, the warrant request states.
The victims later learned it was a scam. Moore police contacted Rodriguez, who again advised he lost his mother and his residence due to the tornado. However, the address he gave, 2520 19th St. and Tower Road, does not exist. Police also spoke to Rodriguez’s mother, who is alive and well in the Bronx, the document states.
