Brien Angel Rodriguez, 25, allegedly told several people he lost his home and his mother died in the May tornado, court records show.

According to the warrant requests filed with the charges, after Rodriguez told one woman, who was doing charity work for tornado victims, his story in July, she gave Rodriguez $70 in cash, a television, a cable box and various household items worth less than $500.

Rodriguez told the story again in August when someone who thought Rodriguez needed assistance and put him in touch with an individual who ended up giving Rodriguez $350 worth of gift cards, the warrant request states.

The victims later learned it was a scam. Moore police contacted Rodriguez, who again advised he lost his mother and his residence due to the tornado. However, the address he gave, 2520 19th St. and Tower Road, does not exist. Police also spoke to Rodriguez’s mother, who is alive and well in the Bronx, the document states.

Individual not

ID’d yet from

fatality wreck

Police still have not been able to confirm the identity of an individual who died during a one-vehicle wreck at 2:39 a.m. Saturday near Indian Hills Road.

“We have made a tentative identification but are awaiting a confirmed verification from the Medical Examiner’s Office and final notifications to the family,” Lt. Brent Barbour said.

The reporting party said the vehicle had rolled and was fully engulfed in flames. Norman Fire Department arrived and extinguished the vehicle fire, which was on the north shoulder of the road.

Preliminary investigation indicated that the vehicle was eastbound on Indian Hills Road, lost control for an unknown reason, exited the roadway onto the north shoulder, rolled and caught on fire. Emergency responders located one deceased adult occupant within the vehicle.

The fatality accident is being investigated by Norman and OU police department’s Collision Investigation and Reconstruction Team.
