NORMAN — A 67-year-old man was charged with sexual battery Tuesday in Cleveland County District Court for an incident that occurred with a teenage girl in February.
Newt Wesley Johnson, of Oklahoma City, was charged after touching the girl “in a lewd or lascivious manner” and without her consent, the charge states.
The teen filed a police report at her high school in reference to sexual battery the first weekday after it allegedly took place. The report said the incident occurred at a friend’s house in Oklahoma City in northern Cleveland County over the weekend.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed with the charge, an Oklahoma City detective interviewed the girl in March to learn more details about the assault. A few months later, another Oklahoma City detective interviewed Johnson.
Johnson denied having any contact with the girl and then requested a lawyer, at which point the interview was terminated, the affidavit said.
The probable cause affidavit showed probable cause for the Johnson’s arrest existed at the time of the arrest May 2, the day of the interview.
Johnson was to be transported to the Cleveland County Detention Center within three days of his arrest and his bond was to be set at $10,000.
