Teen charged with first-degree murder

NORMAN — The 17-year-old who allegedly shot and killed Nicholas Werner Williams, 20, in his Norman home was charged with first-degree murder Wednesday in Cleveland County District Court.

Myron Lomonte Burris, one of Williams’ neighbors, told police he broke into Williams’ home with the intent to steal but didn’t know anyone was home, according to the affidavit. He told police they got into a struggle and he ended up shooting Williams.

Williams suffered two gunshot wounds, one of which hit the femoral artery in his right leg, causing a fatal loss of blood, the affidavit said. Williams called 911 for assistance after he was shot and made some statements to police before he lost consciousness and later died in the emergency room.

According to the affidavit, Williams said someone had come into his home while he slept and shot him in the leg. The shooting happened around 9 a.m. Sept. 14 at Quorum Condominiums in the 2100 block of West Brooks Street.

Burris became a person of interest to police after they found out he had been missing from his residence just prior to the murder. Police located Burris near an auto burglary scene six days later on West Lindsey Street and picked him up.

He was arrested at the scene and transported to the Norman Police Department.

Burris was booked into Cleveland County jail on a complaint of first-degree murder and first-degree burglary.

Other homicides: This marks the third homicide to occur in Norman this year.

In April, charges were filed against Jeremy Robert Howard, 26, for first-degree murder and child abuse.

Howard was allegedly in a relationship with 23-month-old Kyla Rose Hosler’s mother.

According to the affidavit, Hosler died after transport to Norman Regional Hospital after Howard allegedly abused the child, went without checking on her for 30 minutes and then called police when he found her unresponsive. The case is still being discussed with the district attorney’s office, and no pleas have been entered at this time. Howard’s last preliminary hearing conference was Tuesday.
