NORMAN — Police identified the man who killed himself Tuesday following a pursuit that ended with a wreck in Norman.

Juddson Daniel Fanning, 31, led Oklahoma City police on a high-speed chase around 11:41 a.m. in the area of SE 44th Street and High Avenue. Authorities pursued Fanning southbound on I-35 until he exited in Norman at Robinson Street, Oklahoma City police Capt. Dexter Nelson said.

The chase ended around noon after a collision with an uninvolved vehicle near 24th Avenue Southwest and Main Street. Two people in the other vehicle were treated for minor injuries, Nelson said.

After the wreck, Fanning’s vehicle came to a rest near the Circle K gas station in the area. When the suspect got out of the vehicle, he told police to back off or he would shoot himself, witnesses said. Fanning then shot himself in the head.

Nelson said officers had been looking for Fanning in response to previous calls Monday including a domestic strangulation incident. He also had several warrants and Oklahoma City officers were very familiar with him, Nelson said.

Fanning was charged in May with domestic assault with a dangerous weapon, domestic abuse by strangulation and second-degree robbery in Oklahoma County. He also was convicted of robbery with a firearm in Oklahoma County in 2001.
