NORMAN — FBI announced the arrest of a cross-dressing man Tuesday morning who allegedly robbed two Norman banks.
John Paul Matthews, 44, of Norman, is expected to face charges for Monday’s robbery of the Republic Bank and Trust, 1200 E. Lindsey St., and the Sept. 27 robbery of Arvest Bank, 1335 W. Lindsey St.
FBI reported a man dressed in women’s clothing walked into the branch shortly before 7 p.m. Monday and gave the teller a note saying he had a gun. The teller complied with the man’s request for money.
A witness observed the subject enter a white Cadillac and recognized the individual based on photographs from media coverage of the previous robbery of the Arvest Bank. The witness provided investigators with a license plate number, and authorities located Matthews.
Matthews was arrested by FBI agents and Norman police officers around 2:15 a.m. Tuesday. He was transported to Grady County Jail and was expected to have an initial appearance Tuesday in federal court in Oklahoma City.
