NORMAN — Alleged shooting

A Moore man, who has previously been convicted of numerous felonies, was charged again Monday in Cleveland County District Court.

Anthony Jordan Smith, 23, was charged with possession of a firearm after a former felony conviction, feloniously pointing a firearm and obstructing an officer.

Norman police were responding to a shooting at 3802 Sunvalley Drive early Sunday morning when they contacted a victim who had a gunshot-grazing wound to her arm, according to the affidavit filed with charges.

The victim told police Smith had shot her. Another witness said he heard the shooting and Smith was the only one with the victim. The victim also said Smith had been shooting outside the residence prior to the police department’s arrival, the affidavit said.

While officers were at the door, a gunshot went off inside the residence. When officers entered, numerous firearms were found inside the residence during a consent search. Smith was also in the residence.

Witnesses identified one of the firearms as the gun used by Smith. The gun’s magazine and chamber were loaded and numerous shell casings were found, as well as live bullets. A bullet hole also was found in the car in the driveway and a slug was recovered from the car, records show.

Smith gave multiple officers a false name repeatedly at the scene and would not identify himself, the affidavit said. He was arrested and transported to Cleveland County Jail.

During transport and without questioning, Smith told the officer transporting him that upon officers’ arrival, he was “strapped” and should have shot the officer when he had the chance, the document states.

“He said he had 70 years in prison awaiting him and that he would not go back to prison. He said he would try to take my gun and kill me or make me kill him. He physically resisted officers and force had to be used to subdue him,” the affidavit said.
