NORMAN — After underage confidential informants conducted alcohol compliance checks with the ABLE Commission in January, two restaurant workers were charged Wednesday for selling alcohol to a minor.

Julie Renee Sorrells, 20, and Kendall Regan Watkins, 22, both of Norman, were charged separately in Cleveland County District court for one felony count of selling or furnishing an alcoholic beverage to a minor and a misdemeanor count of selling liquor without a license.

An agent with the ABLE Commission conducted the checks with the underage informant on Jan. 23.

Neither Sorrells, an employee at Pepe Delgados Mexican Restaurant, or Watkins, an employee of Earth Cafe, asked for the informant’s ID or age when the 18-year-old ordered an alcoholic beverage, according to the affidavit filed with charges.

Once the teen received the drink and touched it, showing possession at both restaurants, the agent tasted the drink to confirm it contained alcohol and took a sample of the drink as evidence, the affidavit said.

The sample was sent to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation’s forensic laboratory for alcohol analysis. In addition to furnishing a minor with alcohol, both Sorrells and Watkins couldn’t provide a valid employee liquor license.
