NORMAN — Four people were killed and two others were seriously injured in an early Saturday morning crash in McClain County, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
The OHP reported the single vehicle wreck happened at 1:33 a.m. Saturday on US 77 between two and three miles south of Purcell. Jordan Powell, 23, of Wayne, was driving a 2004 Dodge pickup southbound on US 77 when the pickup drifted into the northbound lane. Powell jerked the pickup to the right to avoid a northbound vehicle.
A collision report stated the pickup ran off the road into the culvert and struck the embankment, overturning several times and ejecting all passengers. Trulie Beason, 36, of Lexington, Gregory Haegele, 48, of Elk City, and Cody Simmons, 22, of Purcell, all died at the scene from massive injuries. A fourth person also was pronounced dead at the scene, but the name is being withheld until next of kin is notified.
According to OHP, Powell and another passenger, Rebecca Sisca were transported by Eagle Med to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City. Powell suffered head and trunk internal injuries. He was listed in serious condition.
The OHP reported Sisca was admitted with head, trunk internal and external injuries. She also was listed in serious condition.
Powell was the only person wearing a seat belt when the crash occurred, according to OHP.
