NORMAN — A vandal or vandals may have used an ax to break at least 11 windows and damage two glass doors in the downtown Arvest Bank.

A window also was broken at the old Chase bank building currently occupied by the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office, also on Peters.

Norman Police Lt. Jay Callaghan said Norman police responded around 7:30 a.m. Saturday when bank employees discovered numerous windows broken at the Main Street and Peters Avenue building.

The vandalism likely occurred in the wee hours of Saturday morning after area businesses had shut down, officials said.

There is no suspect description and there are no witnesses at this time, but police said they are hopeful a review of bank and Sheriff’s Office security videos will reveal evidence that could lead to a suspect.

Callaghan said there were no other reports of similar vandalism either Saturday or previously. The sheriff’s office will pursue their own investigation of the damage to the county property, he said.
