NORMAN — A Norman man was charged Thursday with robbery with a weapon and aggravated assault and battery together with an unknown man in Cleveland County District Court.

Steven Diallo Gaston, 29, allegedly helped the unknown man rob someone else with a knife and possibly a gun while they beat him up at 3:30 a.m. Saturday in a Norman apartment complex parking lot.

The victim had to have his jaw wired shut as a result of the assault, according to the affidavit filed with charges.

The man told police he was passing through town for work and went to Riverwind Casino, where he met Gaston. The victim left the casino with Gaston to go to an OU party in Norman.

Another man drove the victim, Gaston and another unknown male to a gas station to get beer and then to Norman, where they stopped at two residences, the affidavit said.

At one point, the unknown passenger was dropped off at a residence and another unknown male, possibly in his mid to late 20s, got in the vehicle with them. They then drove to the south parking lot of the apartment complex at 3001 Oak Tree Ave., when everyone except the driver got out of the vehicle, the victim told police.

At that point, Gaston lit up a “blunt” and acted like he was going to pass it to the victim but punched him in the face instead, the affidavit said.

The unknown male then starting kicking the victim and stomping him in the face. The male also pulled out a pocket knife and held it to the victim’s throat while he held a hard object to the back of his head, which the victim believed was a gun. The victim said he never actually saw a gun, the document states.

While the victim was held by knife, and possibly gunpoint, Gaston allegedly yanked at the victim’s blue jean shorts until they came off. The victim told police his cell phone and his wallet, with $20 in it, were in his shorts.

When the two men got the victim’s shorts off, they ran back to the car, where the driver was waiting, and drove off, the affidavit said.

Norman police were serving a McClain County bench warrant Wednesday on Gaston, at which point they arrested him and took him to the police department.

When Gaston was interviewed about the incident, he told police the victim and the unknown male, identified as “BJ”, got into an altercation in the vehicle and ended it in the parking lot.

Gaston said he never assaulted the victim or took his shorts, the affidavit said.

Gaston said he tried pulling “BJ” off the victim in the parking lot but ended up getting back into the car and left “BJ” and the victim behind, the document states.

According to an enhancement page filed with the charges, Gaston has previously been convicted in May 2007 in Cleveland County of gross injury to a person, as well as possession of marijuana in May 2012 and unauthorized use of a vehicle in November 2004.
