Norman police Pistol Team places in Arkansas match

NORMAN — Officers from the Norman Police Department’s Pistol Team traveled to El Dorado, Ark., last week to participate in the Razorback Regional and Arkansas State Police Pistol Combat matches, placing in several categories.

The three-day event began May 31 and continued through June 2, with Norman officers competing against officers from Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas and Oklahoma.

During the Arkansas State Match, the officers earned first- and second-place awards in the two-man revolver category. During the Razorback Regional Match, the officers earned second place in the four-man semi-auto category and third place in the two-man revolver category.

The representatives from the Norman Police Department included MPO Jeremy Garnand, Sgt. Robert Wasoski, MPO Joshua Barker, Sgt. William Crews and Officer Christi Copeland.

All five of the Norman police officers earned a position on the prestigious Governor’s 20, which is made up of the top 20 shooters in the state match. Copeland also earned the Top Woman Shooter award by outscoring every other female throughout the tournament.

Crews earned one first-place individual award and one second-place individual award. Garnand earned two first-place individual awards. Copeland earned two first-place awards.

PPC is Police Pistol Combat, where competitors fire both custom and stock revolvers and semi-automatic handguns from the 3-yard, 7-yard, 15-yard, 25-yard and 50-yard distances, while conforming to multiple mandated positions.
