Jury trial moved again

NORMAN — The jury trial for former OU professor Dwain Pellebon was pushed back again in Cleveland County District Court this week.

District Judge Tracy Schumacher’s bailiff said the trial, which was supposed to begin this week, has been postponed to a date undetermined at this time. The parties will have to get together in a status conference to choose a date, but it has been stricken at this time, the bailiff said.

The Oklahoma State Courts Network shows that this is Pellebon’s third jury to be pushed back this year.

Pellebon, 56, of Norman, was charged in 2011 for sexually abusing children.

Original charges were amended during a June 22 preliminary hearing last year to three counts of child sexual abuse and six counts of lewd or indecent proposals to children under 16. During the preliminary hearing, six female witnesses from ages 9 to 21 testified against Pellebon.

In March, a list of people subpoenaed for the trial included seven victims. OU’s School of Social Work academic director Donald Baker was subpoenaed as well. Pellebon was a social work professor at the university.

Several police officers and child care workers also were subpoenaed.

At his district court arraignment in July, Pellebon pled not guilty.

Pellebon resigned from his position as a social work professor at OU in December 2011, shortly after he was charged with the felonies.
