Two arrested for looting in Little Axe

NORMAN — Two people were arrested Friday for looting an area of Little Axe ravaged by the May 19 tornado.

Cleveland County deputies found Christopher Allen Jones, 45, of Newalla, and Candy Renee Jenkins, 42, of Oklahoma City, picking up metal and wood and loading it into a vehicle Friday evening near Harrah Road and Pecan Creek Road, the release stated.

Jones and Jenkins said they didn’t live in the area or have permission to remove the property, but they told deputies they had been taking debris for the past couple weeks, according to the press release.

Jones was arrested for disturbing a disaster area, and Jenkins was arrested on complaints of disturbing a disaster area and obstructing a police officer, according to the release. Deputies also found that Jenkins had lied about her identity and gave officers her sister’s name and identification card when questioned at the scene.

Jones and Jenkins were booked into the Cleveland County Detention Center. Formal charges against them are pending.

Anyone who sees anything suspicious in the areas ravaged by the May tornadoes should dial 911 and report the crime immediately, Sheriff Joe Lester said in the release.
