Robbery suspect arrested

NORMAN — Members of the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force arrested a suspect Wednesday night who was believed to have robbed three Oklahoma banks in the past two months.

Dana Ray Sommers, 45, of Oklahoma City was arrested without incident around 10 p.m. Wednesday in the 8500 block of E. Reno Avenue in Midwest City.

The arrest was made on an outstanding state warrant charging Sommers with the robbery of Midfirst Bank in Tulsa on June 27. Sommers also is suspected of two recent bank robberies in Oklahoma City.

First Fidelity Bank, 700 SW 29th St. was robbed June 18, and Bank of the West, 1600 SW 89th St. was robbed July 16.

A detective with the Tulsa Police Department recognized surveillance photographs put out in alerts from the Oklahoma City robberies and coordinated investigation with the FBI in Oklahoma City. This resulted in the U.S. Marshal’s Service Fugitive Task Force locating and arresting Sommers. Sommers is expected to face federal bank robbery charges.

The robberies were investigated by the FBI, Oklahoma City Police Department, Tulsa Police Department and U.S. Marshal’s Service Fugitive Task Force. The charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
