NORMAN — A Newalla couple was charged conjointly with cruelty to animals Tuesday in Cleveland County District Court after abandoning five dogs, records show.
Christopher Todd Watters, 36, and Sharon Ann Watters, 35, left the five dogs at an abandoned property in the 17000 block of Sundance Lane in Newalla without food, water or care, according to the affidavit filed with charges.
A reporting party told the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office about the incident June 4. The couple left the dogs at the property around May 20 and did not return or make arrangements to have the animals cared for, the affidavit said.
Four of the five dogs were captured and placed in the care of the Noble Police Department Animal Shelter. A copy of the order to seize the animals was served on the property, but no contact by the couple has been made and the couple has not been located, the document states.
Warrants for the arrest of both Watters were filed Tuesday, records show.
An enhancement page filed with Christopher Watters’ charge also shows he was previously convicted of grand larceny in Jefferson County in September 2002.
