NORMAN — An Oklahoma City man police identified as a gang member was charged with assault and battery with a deadly weapon Thursday after shooting at another individual earlier this month.
Juan Luis Balderas, 20, was charged in Cleveland County District Court. Oklahoma City police responded to the shooting around 9 p.m. July 9 at Villas at Countryside Apartments, 9501 S. I-35 Service Road, according to the affidavit filed with the charge.
Balderas was in possession of a handgun that he used to shoot at another man three times, striking him once in the upper right thigh, the affidavit said. The man was treated for the gunshot at a local hospital.
Balderas, known as a Grande Barrio Centrale gang member, has been previously convicted as a youthful offender for assault and battery on an employee of a juvenile detention center. He also has six prior juvenile adjudications for possession of a firearm after a former conviction, possession of a sawed-off shotgun, second-degree burglary and three counts of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, the affidavit said.
An application for the arrest warrant for Balderas was filed with the charge Thursday.
