NORMAN — A man who was struck by a vehicle while walking along State Highway 9 early Tuesday remained in critical condition Thursday, an OU Medical Center official confirmed.

Eddie Eaton, 69, was found on the side of the road around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday between 60th Avenue Southeast and 72nd Avenue Southeast by Norman police and fire. Norman police Capt. Tom Easley said Thursday the matter is still under investigation.

“It’s difficult to draw any hard and fast conclusions,” Easley said.

The investigation will determine whether or not anyone receives a citation but as of yet, the officer hasn’t issued any, he said.

The individual driving the vehicle who struck Eaton didn’t have a phone so they went to another location to call police saying, “I think I hit somebody,” Easley said. The individual later met with officers.

“There are some indications that (Eaton) may have become disoriented or suffered some kind of medical event and didn’t’ realize where he was,” he said.

Easley said Eaton suffered injuries to his extremities and trunk.
