NORMAN — A former Moore Christian School teacher, now facing additional charges for rape and indecent proposals to a 13-year-old student, was formally arraigned Thursday in Cleveland County District Court.
A status conference was set for Jan. 8, 2014 during the formal arraignment of Gregory Alan Saul, 66, of Oklahoma City.
Saul was bound over for trial after additional counts were approved in June, a month after a preliminary hearing, records state. He now faces 18 felony counts.
The charges include first and second degree rape, forcible oral sodomy, attempted rape, lewd molestation or indecent proposal to a child, soliciting a minor for indecent exposure or obscene material and a pattern of criminal offenses.
Saul began teaching at the school in January 2011, according to previous reports. A sexual relationship between Saul and a 13-year-old student began in August 2011, according to a probable cause affidavit.
The girl reported that Saul gave her two rings, asked her to marry him and move to Mexico with him “since her age was legal in that part of the country,” the affidavit states.
The girl was able to describe Saul’s bedroom, told police Saul took her to his wife’s business for sexual encounters and had encounters during school hours on campus as well, the document said.
Saul admitted to police he gave the girl a promise ring and another ring, he spoke of marriage and taking her to Mexico and he bought her a phone which they used to talk about sexual things and send nude photos, the affidavit states.
Saul bonded out of jail on a $75,000 bond a few months after his initial charges in February. He remained out on bond as of Thursday, said Meghan McCormick, Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson.
