2 more charged with robbery with a weapon in Norman

NORMAN — Two more people were charged Monday in Cleveland County District Court for a robbery that occurred in January during which a Norman man was shot.

Andrew Scott Kembel, 24, and Marquiloh Donte Williams, 20, both of Norman, were charged with robbery with a weapon, shooting with intent to kill and first-degree burglary in concert with James Lehman.

Lehman, 19, was charged in April for assault and battery with a deadly weapon and conjoint robbery with Kembel and Williams. He bonded out of jail on a $200,000 bond the same day he was charged.

The three allegedly robbed, burglarized and shot Phillip Thomas Wren at his northwest Norman home Jan. 25.

According to affidavits filed with the charges, Williams told detectives he met up with Kembel and Lehman before the incident. The two offered to pay him to knock on Wren’s door and call them once he was inside the residence.

When Williams knocked on the door, he told Wren his vehicle had broken down and asked to use his phone to call a friend. He called Lehman’s cell phone using Wren’s phone and told him he was inside the house. The call was later discovered to be the cue for Lehman and Kembel to advance on the house, the affidavit said.

After the phone call, Wren offered to help Williams push the vehicle to the side of the road. As they were pushing the vehicle, Lehman and Kembel approached Wren in ski masks, brandishing a handgun and a rifle, the affidavit said.

They pointed their guns at him and ordered him back to his residence. As they were walking back, Lehman hit Wren on the chin with the handgun, leaving a gash, the affidavit said. Wren said Williams then joined the other two in escorting him to his residence.

When Wren entered his home, he tried to shut his front door and lock it to keep Lehman and Kembel out, but they forced their way in. When they entered, Lehman began shooting at him with his rifle, the affidavit states.
