NORMAN — Norman Police Sgt. William Crews represented the department’s pistol team last week at the Rocky Mountain Nationals in New Mexico.
The three-day event is a police pistol combat event hosted in Raton, New Mexico. Crews earned seven first-place, six second-place and five third-place awards during the competition, which tested handgun marksmanship skills from distances of three to 50 yards under time limits and from different positions.
Accuracy is the key component in the matches and marksmanship skills are improved through competition. The Norman Police Department Pistol Team is made up of firearms instructors and future instructors.
The skills and experience gained at these competitions are brought back and passed on to fellow officers and academy cadets, making the department’s training top-notch.
