OU linebacker charged with DUI on motor scooter

NORMAN — Formal charges were filed against a University of Oklahoma student Monday in Cleveland County District Court for drunkenly driving a motor scooter.

Londell Franklin Taylor, 24, was charged with driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and driving with a canceled, suspended or revoked license.

Taylor was stopped about 2:30 a.m. Sunday by University of Oklahoma police at Boyd Street and Monnet Avenue after officers saw him riding the motor scooter through a parking lot, onto the sidewalk, through an intersection and back onto the sidewalk, according to the affidavit filed with the charges.

Taylor told Norman police, who responded for mutual aid, that he had about 10 or 11 beers earlier that night.

When Taylor asked why he had been stopped, police explained he was driving a motorized vehicle on a sidewalk, the affidavit states.

Taylor was unsteady on his feet as he stood up and performed poorly on a field sobriety test, the affidavit said.

He was then placed under arrest and transported to Cleveland County jail.

Upon arrival, the officer took him to the intoxilyzer room where he was read implied consent and Taylor refused the test, according to the affidavit.

The OU student, also a linebacker for the OU football program, was previously convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol in January 2012, according to court records.
