Man charged after pursuit in Moore

NORMAN — A 26-year-old Minco man was charged Monday in Cleveland County District Court after attempting to elude Moore police, leading them on a pursuit Friday.

Zachary Ryan Hill was charged with attempting to elude a police officer, leaving the scene of an accident involving injury, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled dangerous substance in concert with Twyla Martin and driving with a suspended license.

Moore police were attempting to initiate a traffic stop Friday at 1800 N. Service Road after seeing a vehicle without a functional tag light and driver’s side taillight when the vehicle took off at a high rate of speed northbound onto Interstate 35, according to the affidavit filed with charges.

The vehicle then exited on Southeast 82nd Street and swerved in and out of traffic to elude police, but after attempting to turn left at a high rate of speed, the driver lost control, hit a curb and went airborne. The vehicle came to a rest by striking the retaining wall of the 82nd Street overpass of I-35, the affidavit said.

The driver immediately fled on foot when the vehicle came to a stop. When police checked on the welfare of passengers in the vehicle, an officer discovered a person was injured and they were treated at the Moore emergency room, the document states.

While conducting a custodial inventory of the vehicle, police found drug paraphernalia and methamphetamine, the affidavit said.

The driver of the vehicle, Hill, was located by an Oklahoma City Police Department canine unit near the location of the wreck. Hill told police he ran because he knew he had outstanding warrants for his arrest, the affidavit said.

According to an enhancement page filed with the charges, Hill has previously been convicted of felonies in Cleveland, McClain and Oklahoma counties, as well. The convictions date back to 2009, and several are as recent as this February, court records show.
