NORMAN — Norman firefighters are making a wardrobe change this month to show their support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Deputy Fire Chief Jim Bailey said the idea to wear pink breast cancer awareness shirts during October was brought to fire administration by a firefighter.

Each firefighter who wanted to participate purchased their own T-shirt, he said. Norman has 163 firefighters.

“We’re bringing awareness to breast cancer,” Bailey said.

T-shirts also will be available for the public to purchase at Station 4, 4145 W. Robinson St. Purchases can be made from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The proceeds will go toward breast cancer research.

Bailey said if someone shows up at Station 4 and no one is there, firefighters are probably out on a call.

“Please be patient and come back,” he said.
