NORMAN — Norman firefighters extinguished two fires, one at an apartment complex and one involving an outbuilding Monday evening.

Norman Deputy Fire Chief Jim Bailey said no injuries were reported in the fires.

The fire at Winshire Square Apartments, 1120 McGee Drive, Apt. 1120-B, came in as a commercial fire at 5:42 p.m. Firefighters had the main body of the fire out in about 10 minutes.

Bailey said when firefighters arrived at the scene, they encountered heavy smoke and fire showing through the bedroom window at the rear of the apartment, quickly searched the unit and found it unoccupied.

Norman police officers evacuated nearby units. Bailey said the fire occurred in the model home.

Preliminary damage estimates for the structure is $25,000 and $5,000 for the contents of the unit.

Three fire station and 15 firefighters responded to the scene, as well as Norman police and EMSStat.

The other fire call came in at 6:45 p.m. at 1221 84th St. The blaze destroyed a 15-foot-by-20-foot outbuilding with a tractor, Bailey said.

The preliminary damage estimate for the building and its contents is $5,000. One engine, one tanker and six firefighters responded to the scene.

The cause of both fires are under investigation by the Norman Fire Marshal’s office.
