NORMAN — A Norman man was arrested Friday on murder complaints after a child in his care was found unresponsive.
Jeremy Robert Howard, 25, is currently in custody at Cleveland County Detention Center after being arrested for the first-degree murder of 23-month-old Kiyla Rose Hosler. No bail has been set.
Norman Police Department Captain Tom Easley said police officers responded to a report of an unresponsive child at 1917 Twisted Oak Drive, apartment C, at 8:40 p.m. April 11. The girl died after transport to Norman Regional Hospital.
The investigation established that Howard was Hosler’s sole caretaker at the residence, and while under his care she sustained a variety of injuries.
Investigators are working closely with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, who will determine the cause and manner of death. Detectives expect the District Attorney’s Office to file formal charges later this week. District Attorney Greg Mashburn was unavailable for comment.
